Do This In Memory Programme

Do This In Memory is a parish-based pre-sacramental programme designed to help children, parents/guardians and the wider parish community prepare for First Eucharist.

As part of the parish formation programme for First Holy Communion, it was decided to initiate the DO THIS IN MEMORY series of masses for children in second class and their parents.

We have successfully completed about 10 years of this programme with the communion classes of both our schools. These masses ensure that the parish, along with both the home and school play its part in the children’s preparation in the months leading up to that important day, all  within the context of the Sunday parish celebration.  These masses have a large input from the parents, all of who help at the monthly masses.

What is Do This In Memory?

Do This In Memory is a parish based programme of preparation for First Communion centred in the parish celebration of the Sunday Eucharist and in the home.

The programme resources are designed to facilitate parents/guardians, families and the parishes’ active involvement in the preparation for the sacrament. It complements and supports the work of sacramental preparation in the parish school or the religious education programme in the parish.

The programme takes place once a month for eight months before First Eucharist and concludes during the parish celebration of the Feast of Corpus Christi.

The parents/guardians and families of those preparing for First Eucharist are invited to participate in this Mass. A group of parents/guardians meet once a month to plan and coordinate the next Sunday of the programme.

All children who are are making First Holy Communion this year and their parents will complete the “Do this in Memory” programme prior to receiving their First Holy Communion by attending 10 special Sunday masses (9 before First Communion and one after). The children also have a special dedicated prayer space in the church.  Dates of the masses are listed below. The masses are at 10.30 AM
